Clive Davis Comes Out As Bisexual

Clive Davis reveals he’s bisexual in his new memoir, The Soundtrack of My Life, in which he also dishes on his work with artists such as Bob Dylan, Whitney Houston and Kelly Clarkson.

Davis, who has twice been married and divorced from women, first experimented with a man roughly thirty years ago. “Was I nervous?” he writes referring to his first encounter with a man he’d met at New York’s Studio 54. “Absolutely. Did the heavens open up? No. But it was satisfying." Although Davis claims to not have harbored repressed feelings for men during his heterosexual marriages, he says that having sex with a man “provided welcome relief.”

In 1990, the record producer began dating a man with whom he remained in a relationship with until 2004. One of Davis’ three children, Mitchell, struggled with this new development concerning his father, Davis reveals in The Soundtrack of My Life. He and his son have since worked things out and Davis is now in a 7-year long monogamous relationship with another man.

While a portion of Davis’ latest memoir deals with his announcement of his sexuality, the majority of The Soundtrack of My Life details his life in the music business. As the founder of Arista and J Records, and current chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment, the 80-year-old has worked with a long and talented list of musical stars.

Throughout the memoir’s pages, Davis exposes little known production secrets regarding Bob Dylan and Milli Vanilli. He opens up about the pain in witnessing the unraveling of Whitney Houston and the battles waged with American Idol product Clarkson. He also reveals exclusive details regarding working with Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Janis Joplin, the Foo Fighters and Jennifer Hudson.
