Cliff Curtis, ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Star, Cast As Lead In ‘Avatar’ Sequels

Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis has been cast in the lead role in all four planned Avatar sequels.

CLIFF CURTIS TO STAR IN ALL FOUR AVATAR SEQUELS

Curtis will play Tonowari, a leader of the Metkayina reef clan who will be introduced in the franchise. Others already cast include originals Sam WorthingtonZoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver.

“Am I worried about how we’re going to bring them to life?” Weaver said in an interview. “Yes, because they’re so ambitious.”

James Cameron plans to produce four sequels to 2009’s hit film. The release dates have also been announced, with the first sequel coming out on Dec. 18, 2020 and the next almost exactly a year later on Dec. 17, 2021. The fourth and fifths films in the franchise are slated to arrive on Dec. 20, 2024 and Dec. 19, 2025, respectively.

Aside from his role as Travis in Fear the Waling Dead, Curtis is known for his work in The PianoOnce Were WarriorsTraining DayLive Free or Die Hard, and The Last Airbender. His other TV credits include TraumaGang Related, and Missing.

Filming for the first sequel is set to begin later this year. Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on June 4.
