Cleveland Browns’ Kadarius Toney Deletes Response To His Arrest For Allegedly Strangling Pregnant Girlfriend

On Thursday, Kadarius Toney addressed his recent arrest on his social media page, declaring people “will believe anything” about him as “long as it’s bad.”

Toney, 26, a two-time Super Bowl winner, was arrested on February 6 after accusations that he attacked his pregnant girlfriend on January 14 at a residence in Georgia. He presently faces one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls and one count of aggravated assault and strangulation over the claims. His bond was $50,000, $25,000 for each charge.

Toney posted a story to Instagram that showed a black and white photo of him in a hat and mask, with the overlayed caption “Mfs say anything when they think they right.” Below that he added, “They believe anything…Long as it’s bad.”

The post was deleted within minutes, many have suspected, in response to legal advice.

No court date has been released yet, but many suspect Toney’s time in the NFL has not ended, given the NFL’s extensive history of allowing players accused of assault to continue to have successful careers.

In June 2023, a study found that between 2000 and 2019, just 21 of the 117 NFL players who were arrested for violence against women were found guilty. Of the 21, four pleaded guilty to a lesser crime and only six served time in jail. The other players returned to the field. Lecturer in Criminology at Middlesex University Dr. Daniel Sailofsky analyzed that this represents a 17.9% conviction rate, which is “below even the most conservative rate for domestic and sexual violence in the USA.”

He emphasized, “When the better players are arrested for violence against women it is true that they are almost untouchable…there’s no link between the severity of the allegations and whether a player is released…what really matters is how talented they are.”

Former wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, Toney played for the Cleveland Browns last season.
