Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s Mom, Shocked About Abuse Claims In Documentary

It’s been two months since the documentary Whitney debuted in Cannes, which made public a shocking claim that Whitney Houston was molested when she was a child by her cousin, Dee Dee Warwick.

Cissy Houston, her mother, is finally breaking her silence following the allegations made. She spoke on behalf of herself and niece, Dionne Warwick, they are were taken by in “horror” by the claims made by Mary Jones, Houston’s long time assistant.

Dee Dee passed away in 2008 and Houston died four years later in 2012.

In the movie, Jones claims that Houston confided in her that she was sexually abused by Dee Dee when she was a child. Gary Houston also claimed in the movie that Dee Dee abused him between the ages of seven and nine. Following the movie’s premiere, Jones still stands by her decision to allow the allegations she made go public.

Cissy and Dionne have put out their emotional statement about the allegations and the film as a whole. They say that the allegations are not true, but even if they were, they should not have been made public information through a movie. “If she was molested, I do not believe she would have wanted it to be revealed for the first time to thousands, maybe millions of people in a film,” they write. They go on to say that if Jones was really the late superstar’s personal confidante, she “chose to betray Whitney’s confidence by publicizing rumors and hearsay.”

They end their statement by saying that this is not how Whitney’s legacy should be left as, to be remembered for her troubles rather than her successes. Her mom is aware of all the trials and tribulations her late daughter went through with fame and drug abuse, but that is not how she should be identified. The statement ends saying: “I am heartbroken that despite all she accomplished fans and haters alike are left with the notion that she lived her life as a victim. She made mistakes and in the last few years she did live her life in the grip of the drugs that drove her and all the consequences of that, both as a woman and as a mother. She loved Krissi with all her heart and she did the best she could as Krissi’s mother, but being in a struggle with drugs is inconsistent with being a great mother. She faced challenges in her life, exacerbated by fame, divorce and family issues but she was not a victim.”
