Cirque du Soleil Performer Yann Arnaud Dies After 20 Feet Fall
Cirque du Soleil performer Yann Arnaud, 38, died Saturday night after falling 20 feet during a performance in Tampa, Florida.
Cirque du Soleil Entertainment group issued a statement stating Arnaud was performing during the VOLTA show when fell to the stage. He died later in the hospital after he received medical attention. The company canceled their last two VOLTA shows in Tampa.
As the investigation goes forward, the company is offering their “full and transparent collaboration to the authorities.”
This is not Cirque du Soleil’s first incident ending in death. In 2013 Sarah Guillot, 31, died after falling 94 feet during the KA show in Las Vegas. Nicolas Panet-Raymond, who was the Occupational Health and Safety Director of Cirque du Soleil, told The Wall Street Journal in 2015 that Guilot’s death “forced us to review the way we work.”

The president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, Daniel Lamarre said everyone is “in shock and devastated by this tragedy. Yann had been with us for over 15 years and was loved by all who had the chance to know him.”
An audience member, Julien Martinez, told CNN that the fall “was awful.” He described the moment after. “You heard all the cries of the audience. There were children there and they were freaking out. It kind of colors our opinions of what is going on behind scenes. What is the cost of our entertainment at that point?”
