Gwyneth Paltrow has weathered a hefty amount of criticism over the Internet over the last few years, and after likening the experience to war, she’s getting blasted some more – by Cindy McCain.

Cindy McCain Calls Gwyneth Paltrow A 'Joke'

Cindy McCain, the wife of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), took umbrage with the statements Paltrow made in an interview with Re/Code. On Twitter, McCain slammed the actress, calling her “a joke.”

"Gweneth [sic] Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My 2 sons serving in the military should talk to her,” McCain tweeted, adding, “Perhaps Gweneth [sic] Paltrow should go out on patrol with some soldiers. Kind of like a Red Carpet in her mind I guess!"

Paltrow had been discussing the hurt that people – specifically celebrities – feel when they come across the harsh negativity of online posters. Speaking from the experience of landing on the top of “least liked” celebrities lists, Paltrow called it dehumanizing.

"You come across [online comments] about yourself and about your friends, and it's a very dehumanizing thing," Paltrow said, according to the interview. "It's almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing, and then something is defined out of it. My hope is, as we get out of it, we'll reach the next level of conscience."

Unfortunately for Paltrow, her answer, perhaps meant to stimulate empathy, once again sees her on the receiving end of Internet vitriol.
