Christopher Scarver recently opened up about why and how he killed fellow inmate Jeffrey Dahmer 20 years ago.
Scarver fatally beat Dahmer in 1994 after watching the serial killer from afar at Wisconsin’s Columbia Correctional Institution. Scarver looked on with disgust as Dahmer would torment people with fake severed limbs he’d create from the prison food. “He would put them in places where people would be,” Scarver told the New York Post. “He crossed the line with some people — prisoners, prison staff. Some people who are in prison are repentant — but he was not one of them.”
Despite keeping an eye on Dahmer, Scarver avoided actually interacting with the notorious inmate, not wanting to draw attention to himself and become one of the targets of Dahmer’s torment. Then, one day, Scarver was put in close quarters with Dahmer and another inmate, Jesse Anderson, to clean the bathrooms.
“I turned around, and [Dahmer] and Jesse were kind of laughing under their breath. I looked right into their eyes, and I couldn’t tell which had done it,” Scarver recalled of the fateful day. He then followed Dahmer toward a staff locker room, grabbing a metal bar from the weight room on the way, and confronted him with a news story about him that told of his heinous crimes that he’d been carrying around in his pocket.

“I asked him if he did those things ’cause I was fiercely disgusted. He was shocked. Yes, he was. He started looking for the door pretty quick. I blocked him,” said Scarver who then struck Dahmer with the bar twice. “He ended up dead. I put his head down,” he said.
Scarver then went in search of Anderson, who was serving a life term for killing his wife in 1992, and killed him as well.
Scarver, who was serving time for killing his boss during a robbery, believes that the prison officials at the facility were likely more than hopeful that Scarver would take his alone time with Dahmer to kill him.
“They had something to do with what took place. Yes,” said Scarver, declining to elaborate further for fear of retribution.
