Christopher Hyndman, a Canadian TV personality, was found dead in an alleyway next to his Toronto home. He was 49.
Hyndman, who co-hosted CBC lifestyle show Steven and Chris with his husband Steven Sabados, was found dead Monday night at 11 p.m. with no vital signs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There does not appear to be a “criminal element” to Hyndman’s death, according to Toronto Police. However, they are still in the process of conducting interviews.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning,” the CBC said in an internal memo, announcing the tragic passing.
Hyndman’s mother Glenda Hyndman believes that her son was likely sleepwalking and fell off the balcony of the apartment he shared with Sabados.
“Christopher was a sleepwalker, and he did that a lot. He even ate in his sleep. It’s not good, but that’s his reality,” Hyndman told the Toronto Star. “He was caught by Steven many times eating in his sleep, absolutely … I don’t know if he ever got a restful, solid sleep.”
Hyndman and Sabados wed in 2008 after twenty years of dating. In addition to co-hosting Steven and Chris, the two launched a home décor line and design company The Sabados Group. They also starred in HGTV series Designer Guys, Design Rivals and So Chic with Steven and Chris.
“He’s really, really, really struggling,” Glenda Hyndman said of Sabados. “I’m going up there [to Toronto], and I’m going to stay as long as I need to help him, because I’m his only little piece of Christopher left.”
