Actress Christina Ricci has filed for divorce from her husband of almost seven years, and has asked for sole custody of their son.
Ricci filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences. In the filing she also asked for sole custody of the couple’s 5-year-old son, Freddie.
Her husband James Heerdegen is a film producer, and the two reportedly met on the set of the short-lived ABC show Pan Am in 2011, while Heerdegen was working as a dolly grip. They began dating in 2012, and were married in 2013 in New York City.
This divorce comes one week after Ricci was granted an emergency protective order from her husband, who she claims spit on her during an altercation. He was not arrested, but was ordered to stay away from the actress.
Ricci is best known for her work as a child actress in roles like Wednesday in the 1991 movie The Addams Family and Kat in Casper from 1995. The actress went on to star in several TV shows and movies as an adult, including The Lizzie Borden Chronicles and Black Snake Moan.
On Father’s Day, Ricci celebrated Heerdegen on Instagram with a post showing a card and the caption “We ♥️ you, Daddy!”
