Actress and singer Christina Milian is throwing herself into a career comeback that includes an E! TV series and an album featuring Lil Wayne.
Milian, her mother and her sisters will all be starring on an E! docuseries called Christina Milian Turned Up. In addition to covering her dynamic with her family members, the series will also follow Milian’s return to music and her love life. For Milian, the hardest part of filming was getting used to the cameras following her interactions with her family.
“It was a challenge for all of us – being vulnerable and being ourselves and be the most human that we most possibly could because that’s what is going to translate,” Milian explained to uInterview exclusively. “There were moments initially that we were little bit perturbed and a little awkward, but at that time you just have to get used to the cameras and you just got to live life. At the end of the day, people are going to watch the show and they are going to fuss and say whatever the hell they want, but as long as you stay true to who you are, I think that comes across far, far better.”
Thankful for the strong foundation she has with her tight family, Milian said that doing the reality show at times put a strain on their relationships, but that it ultimately brought them all a bit closer together.
“In hindsight, all the crazy moments, it all played a major role in bringing us closer together,” Milian explained. “We all lived together, we were all very codependent on each other and in time we became very innocent, and at the same time we got to revisit the family values that we once had. So it brought us back together and brought that back into play. It was a good experience.”
Milian, who appeared on Dancing With the Stars’ 17th season, is waging a career comeback in a major way after taking the time off to spend more time with her daughter Violet despite her own awareness that coming back from a hiatus can be a bit more difficult for female entertainers. Now, the “AM to PM” singer already has a huge song with Lil Wayne.
“I love Wayne. He’s a regular person. That guy is a hard worker. He works his ass off. He pretty much has a schedule of work, work, work, work, work, 24/7,” Milian dished about the hip-hop artist. “Now working with him, he definitely helped to motivate and put me into full drive as well. Doing “Start a Fire” kind of happened out of nowhere. That was a demo I had for a long time, the record label heard it and weeks later Wayne is on it and all of a sudden three days before the American Music Awards they tell me I’m gonna be performing on the award show.”
“You just kind of be prepared for what might happen when it comes down to working with Wayne because riding that wave is a very fortunate wave to be able to be on,” Milian added. “The song is a big song and I’m looking forward to shooting a video for that and I’m happy that he is putting it on the album.”
Christina Milian Turned Up will premiere on E! Jan. 18 at 10/9c.
