Dead To Me star Christina Applegate revealed that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis earlier this year.
“A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” she wrote in a series of tweets on Tuesday. “It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a—— blocks it.”
She said she sought a companion’s advice – who also has the neurological condition – on how to live with and manage multiple sclerosis, which can damage nerve cells and disrupt the nervous system’s capability of functioning properly.
“As one of my friends that has MS said ‘we wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do,” she continued. “So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
Applegate’s Sweet Thing costar and longtime friend Selma Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and has publicly spoken about her treatment and experience with the condition.
“People write me asking how I do it,” wrote Blair at the time. “I do my best.”
Applegate had previously undergone a double mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, while she starred on the ABC sitcom Samantha Who? She became well-known through her roles in films like Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (1992) and Fox’s sitcom Married… With Children.
More recently, she has played the role of Jen Harding in the Netflix series Dead to Me, where she also works as an executive producer. The third and final season of the series is currently in production.
