Christian Blogger Glennon Doyle Melton & Soccer Star Abby Wambach Are Dating

Momastery blog owner and Christian author Glennon Doyle Melton reveals her new partner is USA soccer star Abby Wambach.

Their coming out as a lesbian couple came as a surprise to many. The news comes just three months after Melton announced her split from her husband of 14 years Craig Melton, and only two months after Wambach announced her divorce from wife of three years Sarah Huffman.

Melton has affirmed her position that gay marriage and LGBTQ relationships are not sinful and that love should be celebrated, regardless of whom it’s between. Fellow Christian bloggers took to Twitter to congratulate the couple after Melton posted about her relationship with Wambach on social media.

In her Facebook post, Melton described how great her family is and how well they have received this news. She says her husband supports their decision and that the kids are surrounded by love. “They’re lucky kids, to be surrounded by so much love. We have family dinners together – all six of us – and Abby cooks. (She is an AMAZING chef because Jesus loves me). We go to the kids’ school parties together. We are a modern, beautiful family. Our children are loved. So loved. And because of all of that love, they are brave.”

While Melton regularly speaks at Christian events and churches, Wambach has always been quiet about her faith. “I kind of turned my back away from the church and did steadily until kind of, not necessarily the church, but just like my faith until recently,” she told NPR in an interview. Coming out created a lot of tension between her and her Catholic family, but she has recently come to terms with her faith in the wake.

Of their relationship, Melton has said: “Abby is deeply sensitive and kind. The kids call her an M&M because she looks tough on the outside but inside she’s really mushy and sweet. Abby’s brave. Not just with her words but with her entire being. She has never been afraid to be herself, even when the world told her not to be. I learn from her everyday about the woman I want to become. She is committed to her friends and family. She has this sense of country and honor and chivalry that feels beautiful to me.”
