Chrissy Teigen, known for her bold fashion choices and sharp responses to online critics, made headlines again with her outfit at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony. Teigen, 38, attended the Paris event wearing a green knit Chloé cardigan priced at $1,790, paired with matching micro shorts costing $1,000. The ensemble, which some Instagram followers likened to a diaper, quickly sparked a mix of reactions on social media.

Teigen’s daring look, featuring military-style gold buttons on both the cardigan and the hot pants, was completed with strappy Saint Laurent sandals and a Bottega Veneta clutch. Despite being perfectly on-trend, the outfit was met with criticism. One Instagram user commented, “The worst outfit for that kind of event,” to which Teigen wittily responded, “thanks for sharing!”

Other remarks were harsher. One user quipped, “The airline lost your pants???? Seriously this is awful. If you were drunk I’d understand,” while another questioned, “Why are you wearing underwear and calling it an outfit??????”

Several comments echoed the sentiment that her outfit resembled a diaper. Nonetheless, Teigen also received support from fans and friends. Busy Philipps praised the look, commenting, “my god this fit,” and another follower defended Teigen, saying, “Everyone’s mad about the outfit—she’s a model with 7ft legs let her show off her assets it bought her a house, what have your legs done.”

Teigen, attending the Summer Olympics with her husband John Legend, 45, and their two eldest children, Luna, 8, and Miles, 6, is no stranger to wearing bold and revealing outfits. She has previously worn hot pants during a December 2023 date night with Legend and at one of his 2021 concerts.

Her fashion choices continued to make waves throughout the Olympics. On Sunday, she attended a women’s gymnastics event in another striking outfit: a white Alexander Wang ensemble that resembled a slashed-up menswear shirt. The look included a ribbed camel top and a super-cropped crisp white shirt, paired with a matching Hotflix Mini Skort, featuring shirt-style buttons and a drawstring waist.
