Expecting parents Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have announced that they picked the sex of the their baby – a girl — during the in vitro fertilization process. The couple’s first child is due in spring.

“I’ve made this decision,” Teigen tells People while talking about her new cookbook Cravings. “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’ ”

She continued: “I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl. That excited me. It excited me to see … just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. We’ll get there too, so it’s not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa — it’s crazy!”

The model and TV show host is most excited to see her husband when he is around their daughter: “How soft they get, how mushy, and excited they get. It’s so cute,” she says.

The mom-to-be received some criticism when she revealed that she picked the sex of her baby.

When one user tweeted, “Did you choose the hair and eye color too @chrissyteigen smh messing with the natural blessings from God. I liked you a lot…,” she tweeted back, “my natural blessing from god was infertility.”

The user has since deleted their tweet.

Teigen also tweeted, “What year is this!? And for the record, I am always happy and open to speak on infertility. The more casual, the better! I don’t mind.”

She even called one user out on her harsh and inappropriate tweets: “natural or ivf, my daughter will never speak to another human like this.” The user has since deleted their Twitter account under that handle.
