Chrissy Teigan and John Legend will be having a rainbow baby after Teigan went through an IVF process. A rainbow baby is a term standing for a baby born to a family that has suffered a miscarriage or other form of a failed pregnancy.

The couple lost their third son Jack in September of 2020, and Teigan has been open about the pain this caused them and the long journey of recovering from it emotionally and physically.

Teigan announced the news on Instagram and admitted that she was hesitant to share her pregnancy this time because of what she went through. “Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘Ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still. I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves,” Teigan wrote.

Legend and Teigan have two children together – Luna Simone, 6 and Miles Theodore, 4 – and Teigan’s emotional post about losing Jack nearly two years ago prompted calls of sympathy for the family. She wrote that losing a baby is “the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain you’ve never felt before.

Teigan began IVF treatments this past February.
