Chris Squire, the co-founder and bassist for British rock band Yes, has died following a battle with leukemia. He was 67.
Yes announced Squire’s death in Phoenix Saturday on Facebook. “It’s with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend,” the statement reads.
Squire’s bandmates Geoffrey Downes and Joe Bonamassa took to Twitter to share their sadness at Squire’s passing.
Squire helped found Yes in 1968. It wasn’t until the early 70s that the band really started to take off with popular albums The Yes Album and Fragile. Over 45 years, Squire helped Yes put out 20 studio albums. Their last album, Heaven and Earth, came out in 2014.
Squire had continued touring with the band until May, when it was announced that Squire would be taking a hiatus to receive treatment for a leukemia diagnosis.
Squire is survived by his wife Scotland and five children.
