Comedian Chris Rock will be back to host the 2016 Oscars next year for a second time in his career. After hosting the event back in 2005, he will be in the coveted role once again for the 88th Academy Awards presentation that will take place on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016. The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and will be broadcast on national television on ABC.
Rock took to his Twitter page today to bring the exciting news to light for his 3.6 million followers.
The Academy showed its support and excitement for the announcement in praising the comedian for his accolades and have full confidence that he will shine as host this year. “Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry,” said producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!” Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs also showed her support for Rock by saying, “We share David and Reggie’s excitement in welcoming Chris, whose comedic voice has really defined a generation. He is certain to bring his amazing array of talents to this year’s show.”
After getting his start doing stand-up comedy, Rock got his break starring in Saturday Night Live during the early 1990s before going to well-known roles in movies like Head Of State and Madagascar film series. He’s also known in starring in his own stand-up comedy specials that have aired on HBO including Chris Rock – Kill the Messenger and Chris Rock: Bring the Pain. He most recently directed the HBO special Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo, which aired this past month and featured rising comedian Amy Schumer.
