Saturday Night Live star Chris Redd is on the road to recovery after a brutal punch in the face by a New York City stranger on October 26.

According to the New York Police Department, the comedian was treated at Bellevue Hospital for his face injuries following the assault, which took place outside the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village.

Redd appears to have had a swollen eye and stitches.

Redd updated fans on his condition via Instagram Story on Sunday. “I’ve been resting up like crazy but I want to say thank you thank you thank you for all the messages of love, the jokes, and the concern! I’m OK and healing fast!” he wrote.

He added, “For any shows I missed, I’ll be putting back on the schedule so if you bought tickets SIT TIGHTS AND I GOT YOU!! I’ll be back up talking some good sh-t very soon.”

Despite rumors, Redd confirmed that the assailant did not in fact “snatch” a chain from around his neck at the time of the assault.

The SNL star responded to that theory, “Also…NOBODY SNATCHED MY CHAIN BRO!!!! Y’all will just write anything!”

Redd will appear on an October 31 (pre-recorded) episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. On Instagram, he shared a poster for the interview and joked, “Last thing I did before my face took a ‘break.'”

Back in September, Redd announced his departure from SNL.

“Five years ago, I walked into 30 Rock knowing that this was an amazing opportunity for growth,” he said in a statement. “Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever, I’m grateful to Lorne Michaels and to the entire SNL organization.”

The comedian has not yet announced the rescheduled dates for his Comedy Cellar and City Winery New York shows. He is still scheduled to do his next show on November 11 in Tacoma, Washington.

Redd’s new comedy special, Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?, will premiere this Thursday on HBO Max.
