The Terminal List starring Chris Pratt recently premiered and drove a wedge right between critics and casual viewers.
While it was critically panned by most major outlets and currently holds a 34% approval rating on Rottentomatoes, it seems to be a hit with audiences and was highly rated on those scales.
The debate around this series has also grown very political, as the main character in this show is a Navy SEAL, and it’s adapted from the experiences of former SEAL Jack Carr wrote about in his book.
Publications like Variety and The Daily Beast criticized the pro-military themes in the series with the latter pub calling it an “unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy.”
Both Carr and Pratt have responded to the poor critical reception of the show by emphasizing the high viewership.
Pratt shared a screenshot of a Daily Mail article whose headline read, “The new ‘Yellowstone: Chris Pratt’s new Navy thriller ‘The Terminal List’ defies woke critics’ scathing reviews to shoot up ratings charts with 1.6 billion minutes of streams.”
Carr also seemed to take issue with his show being considered right-wing, but he didn’t help that perception by going on Fox News to discuss it.
The author, who is also an executive producer on the show, said, “We don’t mention right, left conservative, liberal, none of those things are even mentioned … But they see an American flag and they get upset. Or they see someone who is competent with weapons and has a certain mindset and holds those in power accountable for their actions and they just kind of lose it a little bit.”
