The two-hour Amazing Race finale will air Dec. 9 on CBS. One of the final teams competing for the $1 million jackpot is made up of two Chippendales dancers: Jaymes Vaughan, 31, (left) and James Davis, 27 (right).
Vaughan and Davis have said they will donate all the money to fund cancer research if they win. Vaughan’s father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer before the two went on their worldwide adventure and his condition worsened. They have set up a website to raise additional funds called ForgetCancerNow.com.
Vaughan has a message on the site: “My Dad always told me I could do anything I wanted. He encouraged me and made me feel like the world was mine to conquer. Now he is battling one of the rarest forms of cancer in the world, and he needs help to conquer it.”
James and Jaymes are one step away from achieving their ultimate goal. The semifinal episode, which aired this past Sunday, began in Amsterdam with the four remaining teams headed to Barcelona, Spain, and onto the island of Mallorca.
One of the more exciting moments of the show involved a broken windmill that the duo repaired while searching for the next clue in the game. They climbed high in the sky to replace two broken metal fan blades and bolted them back into place.
The team finished in second place, but still qualified for the final, and their motivation is as strong as ever. “We’ve done as much as we can for now to make sure he’s comfortable and turn it into a curable cancer. We pay for the house, so that’s not a worry. We pay the medical bills, so that is not a concern to him. They didn’t have money when I needed braces. I was a mess, and they came through somehow, so now if we win the $1 million, it could all go to helping find a cure for him,” says Vaughan.
