Chiefs’ Harrison Butker Stands By Comments About Women Prioritizing Family Over Career: ‘It’s Beautiful To Step Aside’

After Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker‘s controversial comments about a woman’s role in a household during a college commencement speech in May, he has returned to stand his ground over previous remarks.

During a recent appearance on The Ingraham Apple, he again addressed the meaning of his message.

“I was trying to speak life for so many women that have dedicated their life to being the homemaker, being the one that raises the children,” he said. “And it’s a beautiful role, but it’s not a role that should be diminished.”

The football player emphasized that his intent was to commend women who choose to devote their lives to family but noted he was “definitely saddened” by how people took his words in a “poor manner.”

Butker, 29, noted, “There’s nothing shameful if you are a woman and you want to spend time with your family and raise your children, so it’s not putting down anyone who maybe wants to get a great education and have a career.”

He added, “It’s more talking about how beautiful it is for women just to step aside and prioritize their family and spend time with their children, and that’s what I was trying to speak love about.”

Since the football star went viral for his choice of commentary when addressing Benedictine College’s female graduates, he has maintained his stance on multiple occasions.

During Chiefs training camp in August, Butker said he was “very intentional” in choosing his words.

“I feel like, seven years in the league, having this platform, I’ve just decided there’s things that I believe wholeheartedly that I think will make this world a better place, and I’m going to preach that,” he said.

Following the kicker’s commencement speech, many celebrities, including Katy Perry, have expressed extreme disapproval of his views. These included his disapproval of Pride Month, referencing it as one of the “deadly sins.”

Butker said that he’s faced retaliation because he is a devout Catholic.

“As to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become,” he said days after the speech.
