Sunday's Chicago Marathon apparently wasn't prepared for just how popular it would be, as more than 1,300 runners who crossed the finish line went home without medals since the Bank of America-sponsored event ran out of medals to hand out.
Not to worry, however. The participants who finished after the medals ran out — about seven hours into the marathon — will receive their medals by mail, reports the Chicago Tribune. "We are ensuring that every runner who crossed the finish line will receive a medal to recognize their accomplishments," said Bank of America spokesperson Diane Wagner.
The marathon donated clothing left behind during the event to Pacific Garden rescue Mission.
