Gangs are taking over one boy’s life in Chicago. The fire and ambulance team get a call to see a boy tied to a pole under elevated train tracks with blood all over him.
Lieutenant Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) climbs up to rescue him as the boy, Victor, goes into shock. Casey cuts him down and takes him to get care.
Victor’s grandmother comes into Firehouse 51 to inform Casey of the gangs destroying their neighborhood. Victor is dealing with the ramifications of his older brother turning on the gang. All he wants to do is walk to his high school graduation.
Dawson (Monica Raymund) creates a contest where Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) battle to see who knows their alcohol best.
Brett (Kara Killmer) and Borelli (Steven R. McQueen) arrive on scene to see a woman shaking on the floor lying in her own vomit. Borelli sees a nearby pill bottle of hydrocodone. She eventually wakes up as they try different methods to get her conscious. The woman has immediate attraction to Borelli.
Otis (Yuri Sardarov) notices bruising on his back. He goes to see a doctor but gets worried that it might be leukemia. After drawing his blood, the doctor tells him to sign in, but he doesn’t.
Detective Holloway (Jenny Mollen) continuously drops off her son, J.J., at the fire department. He hangs out with the crew as Holloway is mysteriously working. Severide (Taylor Kinney) demands information and waits for her after work. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) informs Severide of the stressful case she’s working on that deals with Mexican nationals connected to El Chapo.
Casey sits down with “shot callers” from the local gang to try and have them leave Victor alone.
“Victor is not his brother’s keeper,” Casey said.
In the last round of Dawson’s drink competition, Kidd and Herrmann compete to make the quickest mai tai. Herrmann finishes first but Kidd wins as she notices a missing special ingredient.
Trucks arrive on scene to a still blow up. As the squad is engulfed in flames, Otis finds the power switch and Dawson tackles him to the ground before he can touch it. The victim is stuck in the machinery. Dawson says that some of the machines finish their cycle when you cut power and would tear his arm off before they get him free. They wedge the machinery open to rescue him.
Herrmann has to pay Kidd for his loss in the competition. Kidd brings up an alternative option: letting her manage Molly’s. Kidd thinks she can increase Molly’s low percentages with her past management experience.
Dawson thinks it’s a good idea too. Herrmann thinks the women are in cahoots because they are.
Casey goes to walk Victor to his high school graduation. Chief brings firetrucks and lines the road with personnel as they walk.
A political consultant comes into Molly’s to meet Casey. After watching the video of him walking Victor to school, she thinks he has a national future ahead of him.
