Cheyenne, 24, tied for first place in the first round with Cristie Kerr and P.K. Kongkraphan. All three of the golfers tied the Whistle Bear Golf Club record, which was set by Matt Bettencourt and Jon Mills in 2005.
During the round, Cheyenne earned eight birdies and an eagle on the ninth hole. She had one bogey on the eighth.
“I played really solid all day,” Woods told Yahoo. “I had one bogey, which was a stupid three-putt, but overall I played solid.”
“We were just having fun out there,” Woods added of her competitors. “It was very relaxed, very relaxed atmosphere while we were playing. That’s sometimes when I play my best and I guess it worked out.”
Cheyenne’s uncle Tiger didn’t do nearly as well yesterday at the US PGA Tour’s Memorial tournament, which many were quick to point out on Twitter.
Breaking: Woods with an impressive, career-best 9-under 63 today. Oh, it’s Cheyenne. Tiger with a 73.
