Candace Payne, who is better known as “Chewbacca Mom,” performed a rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World” in response to recent events.
Payne took to Facebook over the weekend with the hopes of helping to make the world a better place. After the shooting deaths of a handful of police officers in Dallas, the Texas native felt compelled to spread some joy. Payne uploaded a video of herself singing and playing the piano for a moving performance of “Heal the World.”
“I’m about 30 minutes from where the shootings happened the other night,” Payne said in the video. “I am thousands of miles, hundreds of miles away from really identifying with every single ounce of pain that I know is being felt by the whole world.”
“I really don’t know what else to say other than I’ve been spreading joy, and I’ve been hoping to do that,” Payne added. “But I found myself the last couple days being silent because I’ve been so sad and so heartbroken by what’s going on.”
Payne said at the end of the recording, “Make a better place, y’all. Fill it with joy, not hate.
