Chevy Chase’s Appearance At ‘SNL 40’ Sparks Concerns Over His Health

Chevy Chase, who was one of the original Saturday Night Live cast members when the show debuted in 1975, made an appearance at the show’s 40th anniversary that led viewers to question whether or not the comedic actor is in failing health.

Is Chevy Chase OK?

Chase, 71, walked the red carpet Sunday with the rest of the Saturday Night Live cast members of present and past seasons, and the show’s standout hosts. At one point, Chase was interviewed by NBC’s Carson Daly. When Daly asked Chase about what it was like being a part of the historical show, the actor seemed to struggle to put together a coherent response.

“I left after the first year because I thought this isn’t going anywhere… I liked [hosting]. I liked it. But I missed it more for not being a part of the cast because I left after one year, I had reasons to leave. I’m sorry if I’m perspiring, but I just had to run through a gauntlet,” said Chase, wiping sweat from his brow. “But I liked it a lot, and I still like it. I love Lorne. We’re like brothers now.”

During the show, Kevin Nealon, Norm Macdonald, Seth Meyers and Colin Quinn took to the stage to pay tribute to Chase. At the end of their banter, they introduced Chase. When he came out, he thanked the men for honoring him, blankly looking out at the audience. “Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow,” Chase signed off, a reference to his days at the Weekend Update desk.

Following his appearance on the show, viewers took to Twitter to share their concern for the actor’s health.
