Chester Bennington, Linkin Park Singer, Dies In Suspected Suicide At 41

Chester Bennington, the lead singer for the nu-metal band Linkin Park, was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Thursday morning. He was 41-years-old.

TMZ reports that Bennington’s death is being investigated as a suicide, according to local law enforcement. The news outlet says that he hanged himself.

Police responded to a report of a suicide in the same neighborhood Bennington lived in, around the same time he was found, according to E! News.

Bennington’s band, Linkin Park, was set to begin a new tour next week. Their most recent album, One More Light, was just recently released in May.

The singer helped form the band in the late ’90s. His emotional voice colored their debut album Hybrid Theory, which won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock performance in 2000.

Linkin Park became a household name in the early 2000s with the release of songs like “In the End” and “Numb” as well as with a collaboration-album with rapper Jay-Z.

Bennington is survived by his wife Talinda Bennington, their son Tyler, twin daughters Lilly and Lila, and three children from previous relationships, Isaiah, Jaime, and Draven.

Several celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their sorrow over Bennington’s passing, as well as to offer their condolences to his family.

“So sorry to hear the news about Chester Bennington. Sending so much luv, strength & light to his family and kids,” tweeted Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Jimmy Kimmel also shared his thoughts online. “Chester was one of the kindest men I’ve had on my show. My heart breaks for his family and friends. He will be missed terribly,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live host wrote.

Kimmel recently had Bennington and his band on the show to perform their single “One More Light” in honor of Bennington’s close friend, Chris Cornell, who died by hanging in May.

Bennington was godfather to one of Cornell’s children and sang Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah” at the rock star’s funeral.
