Liberal comedian Chelsea Handler and conservative pundit Tomi Lahren held a political debate and conversation at Politicon, the Comic-Con for politics, on Saturday in Pasadena, California. The debate was one of, if not the most, anticipated moments at this year’s event.
One of the most notable moments came when the pair began to discuss health care and the Senate Republican’s recent failed effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
“Do you have a health care plan or no?” Handler asked Lahren, who is a vocal Trump supporter and opponent of the ACA.
“Luckily, I am 24 so I am still on my parents’ …” Lahren responded. The crowd laughed, shouted, and cheered because Lahren’s ability to stay on her parents’ plan is only made possible by Obamacare.
Soon after the crowd calmed down, Lahren continued, “To say there are things from Obamacare that are not positive, that’s not true.”
She later referred to Obamacare as being in a “death spiral.”
Lahren made headlines in April when she sued her former boss Glenn Beck, claiming that Beck fired her for comments she made about abortion – Lahren claimed she was pro-choice on The View. Before being fired, Lahren rose to prominence on Beck’s network called TheBlaze. Beck and TheBlaze settled for an undisclosed amount.
This isn’t the first time Lahren has debated a liberal comedian. Soon after Trump’s election in November, Lahren went “into the lion’s den” when she appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Handler has recently taken a heavy political stance. During the 2016 Presidential election, the comedian was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton. She has since become an outspoken in her opposition to President Donald Trump.
