Chelsea Handler, 35, the edgy host of E!’s Chelsea Lately, will emcee MTV’s Video Music Awards to be broadcast live from Los Angeles on September 12. "Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of Chelsea Lately," Handler quipped on her show. "And that’s why I will be hosting them."
For the past two years, hosting duties went to comedian Russell Brand. This year’s lineup includes Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez. Lady Gaga leads in nominations with 13, followed by Eminem with 8. Last year’s show was marred by Kanye West, who grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech.
