Chelsea Handler has filed a lawsuit against lingerie company, ThirdLove, for breach of contract.
The actress stated in the Superior Court of California that the brand failed to “fairly compensate her for an advertising campaign it hired her to spearhead.”
In court documents, Handler said that ThirdLove reached out to her back in 2021 and asked her to promote their brand because of her “unique, active, body-positive image and brand.” Eventually the partnership was agreed upon a compensation of $1,060,000. In their agreement, the actress had to do a “specialized exercise regimen” and had “multiple meeting” with ThirdLove executives to prepare for the campaign shoot.
However, the company allegedly canceled the shoot and the agreement on Jan. 26, the day before the shoot was scheduled. Handler had paid out of her pocket to fly out to Whistler, Canada, to Los Angeles for the company’s needs.
Handler claims “that despite the representations made to her, the ThirdLove creative team in charge of her campaign had never obtained approval from its board of directors, and when the Board learned of the campaign at the eleventh hour, it instructed ThirdLove’s officers to terminate the parties’ Agreement,” the complaint stated.
Handler is seeking over $1.5 million in damages, as well as full recovery of substantial money spent for the company.
