Comedian Chelsea Handler hosted the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards, one week after her ex-boyfriend, Jo Koy, hosted the Golden Globe Awards. Handler made a joke about director Martin Scorsese, who was not present then.
“Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese isn’t here tonight, but that’s not going to stop me from letting everyone in this room know I would toss him around like a little Italian meatball,” she said.
Handler’s joke prompted laughter from the audience. She responded with: “Thank you for laughing at that. My writers wrote it.”
Many have taken Handler’s comment as a jab at ex and fellow comedian Koy’s comments at the Golden Globes.
Koy’s notable jokes during the event targeted singer Taylor Swift and the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie, which the audience did not receive well and sparked public criticism on social media.
In defense of his performance, Koy said during his gig, “You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. Slow down. I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.”
Following the awards, Koy has continued to receive backlash for his performance.
