Chelsea Clinton has decided to walk away from her lucrative gig at NBC News to refocus her efforts on the Clinton Foundation and the child she’ll soon be welcoming with her husband Marc Mezvinsky.
“To continue focusing on my work at the Clinton Foundation and as Marc and I look forward to welcoming our first child, I have decided to leave my position as a NBC Special Correspondent,” Clinton, who was earning $600,000 at NBC, wrote on Facebook.
Clinton continued, “I am profoundly grateful to NBC viewers who responded to the stories I shared, providing funds to help expand the reach of those programs and who encouraged their schools’ principals, their mayors and local activists to think about how to build similarly transformative programs in their own communities.”
The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been serving as a special correspondent for NBC News for just under three years. Among her duties at the network was starring in segments of the Making a Difference series.
In a statement, NBC News senior vice president Alex Wallace sung the onetime first daughter’s praises. "Chelsea’s storytelling inspired people across the country and showcased the real power we have as individuals to make a difference in our communities," Wallace said. "While she will be missed, we look forward to working with her in the future.”
Already, Chelsea Clinton’s decision to quit her job at NBC News is sparking speculation that she might be preparing to spend a good deal of her time in the near future working on her mother’s anticipated second bid for the presidency in 2016.
