Chelsea Clinton Challenges Ivanka Trump’s Claim Her Dad Would Be Good For Women: “How Would He Do That?”

Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump, whose parents are facing off against each other in the race to the White House, have long been friends. While they’re apparently still friendly and respectful of each others’ allegiances, Chelsea does want some answers from Ivanka.

At the Republican National Convention last week, Ivanka was tasked with introducing her father, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. In her remarks, Ivanka made a point of appealing to women, linking her father to a platform that would benefit working mothers.

“As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women were not a significant portion of the workforce and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all,” Ivanka said.

During a Facebook Live event this week, Glamour Editor in Chief Cindi Leive mentioned the speech, and asked Chelsea, as Ivanka’s friend, what she would like to ask her about her father’s claim that he would fight for equal pay and affordable childcare. In response, Chelsea said that she would mostly want to ask the entrepreneur how her father would go about doing those things.

Chelsea said, “It would be that question: ‘How would your father do that?'” adding, “Given it’s not something that he has spoken about, there are no policies on any of those fronts that you just mentioned on his website — not last week, not this week.”

Chelsea went on, “So it really matters to me that my mom in this election consistently has told you how she is going to do everything. Whether that’s on gun control or protecting a woman’s right to choose or any of the things we’ve talked about. She also tells you how she’s going to pay for it. It’s something I hope would matter to that traditional Republican voter. Social progress should also come with social responsibility and fiscal responsibility.”

On Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention, Chelsea will get the chance to introduce her mother, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. While Chelsea has acknowledged that Ivanka successfully conveyed her affection for her father, she hopes that she can do that and more when she takes the podium tonight.

“I think it was clear last week when Ivanka introduced her dad that she’s so proud of him,” Chelsea told NBC’s Matt Lauer. “I hope it will be kind of at least as clear why I’m so proud of my mom when I introduce her here in Philadelphia. And yet, clearly, Ivanka and I have different views about who we think should be our president and who we think best represents our country.”
