After a Texas cheerleader was shot after accidentally getting into the wrong car, her injured friend now says she is confident she will recover.
Heather Roth and her friend, Payton Washington, were wounded by gunfire on Tuesday. According to authorities, the shooting happened after Roth came out of her friend’s car and got inside a vehicle parked at an H-E-B supermarket that looked identical to the one she owned. When she attempted to get into the car, she noticed a man in the passenger seat.

Roth headed back to Washington’s car and explained the situation, but the man approached the car and fired shots at the car.
“He is just there his hands up, and then he pulled out a gun and just started shooting at all of us,” said Roth.
Roth had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, but Washington had to be airlifted to the hospital to receive treatment and remains in critical condition.
Washington is now stable following the removal of her spleen. Washington’s stomach has not closed up and is currently being treated with heavy antibiotics for 48 hours to fight off infections.
Washington was born with one lung, further complicating her treatment.
Roth is confident that her friend will recover, “she’s super strong, and I know she’s going to come out of the other side in the most amazing possible way,” she said in a live stream.
Police have since arrested Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., who is now charged with felony deadly conduct.
