‘Charmed’ Actress Alyssa Milano Arrested During Protest For Voting Rights

On Tuesday afternoon, Charmed actress Alyssa Milano was arrested at a voting rights protest outside the White House.

“I was just arrested for demanding the Biden Administration and the Senate to use their mandate to protect voting rights,” she wrote on Twitter. “Stand with me and @peoplefor and tell the Senate and White House that voting rights shouldn’t depend on where you live.”

Milano was protesting with the non-profit organization People for the American Way. The organization was protesting in favor of the Freedom to Vote Act, a bill that would set minimum standards for voting across all states.

If passed the bill would allow for same-day voter registration, provide two weeks of early voting and establish Election Day as a public holiday. The bill is expected to be blocked by Republicans, who have threatened to filibuster it.

“We came back to the White House to deliver a clear message to President Biden: we need actions that match the urgency of his words on voting rights – and time is running out,” the organization’s president, Ben Jealous, said in a statement posted on Twitter. “The Freedom to Vote Act has to pass now if we are going to protect voting rights in the next election for all of us: for Black voters and Brown voters, for women, for younger voters and older voters, voters with disabilities and working people of all backgrounds. The president needs to step up, or voting rights will die on his watch.”
