Charlie Sheen has asked the court to reduce his $55,000-a-month child support payments, claiming that he can no longer afford them.
Sheen currently pays ex-wife Brooke Mueller $55,000 per month in child support for their 6-year-old twins, Bob and Max. Since Sheen’s income has decreased since February 2011, when the child support agreement was made, the actor believes that it should be reduced, reported People magazine.
Sheen claims that he cannot keep up with the payments now that he’s currently earning an average of $87,384 per month. Sheen was previously making $613,000 a month while he was still working on Two and a Half Men, which he left in 2011.
Sheen concedes in his request that he did sell his rights to Two and a Half Men for the sizable sum of $26,750,000, but claims that with his current cost of living that the child support is unaffordable. He states that he spends more than $100,000 a month in bills and fees. Additionally, Sheen, who revealed that he is HIV positive last year, says that he pays $25,000 per month in medical costs that his insurance doesn’t cover.
Credit card debt and legal fees are also reportedly taking a toll on Sheen’s finances.
A hearing for Sheen’s request to reduce the child support payments has been scheduled for April 13.
