Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson have been cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively, in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

The casting decisions, which have been the topic of speculation since the film was announced in early 2012, were announced via Twitter by the erotic novel author E.L. James. James first announced that Johnson would play the role of the English major-turned-submissive bedroom partner Ana.

Exactly an hour later, James announced that Hunnam would play the young millionaire seducer Christian.

Hunnam stars on hit FX show Sons of Anarchy and took the lead in feature film Pacific Rim. He broke out on the scene in 2005’s Green Street Hooligans alongside Elijah Wood as the leader of a “firm” – a gang of supporters of a professional soccer team in the UK.

The daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Johnson is best known for her parts in 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum and The Five-Year Engagement.

Neither Hunnam nor Johnson were among the names of the rumored actors up for the hotly-discussed roles. Among the favored actors had been Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Alexis Bledel and Lucy Hale.

Kelly Marcel was selected to write the big screen adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel and director Sam Taylor-Johnson was tapped to helm the picture in June. The film will hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
