Charli XCX Shares New Song ‘After The Afterparty’

Is there any Charli XCX song that doesn’t deal with partying? Last Thursday, the singer shared her new song, in collaboration with rapper Lil Yatchy, called “After The Afterparty.”

The 24-year-old singer has been teasing her new bubblegum-pop track since the end of September, when she was already shooting the video during late summer parties. The song is way more accessible than what Charli released earlier this year with PC music producer SOPHIE.

The collection of industrial tracks from the electro-dance EP Vroom Vroom seems to have been just a test. The British singer is now taking a new direction that looks closer to her super-poppy 2014 sophomore LP Sucker, which features her greatest hits like “Break The Rules.”

Her collaboration with the 19-year-old Atlanta-based rapper is said to have been born virtually, from a simple Twitter exchange. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Charli talked about how the new song came about, and how Lil Yachty surprised her by saying he loved her album Sucker. She also revealed that she now hates her last album, even if it is the one that made her scale the charts two years ago.

The new song is basically about getting drinks and refusing to end the night. It delivers a first look at the “Boom Clap” singer’s upcoming album, whose title has not been announced yet; though she teased a possible release date in May 2017 in a recent statement.

“I’m going through a phase in my life where I just want to party,” she said. “I don’t want to think about things too much, and I want to feel alive when I listen to music.”
