Charli XCX’s hit new album, Brat was released on June 7 and fans are eager to witness a live performance of songs from the singer’s now-iconic summer album. The tour will start on September 14 in Detroit and conclude in Seattle on October 23.
The album’s distinctive cover art (“brat” written in Arial font on a lime green background) has inspired the “brat” aesthetic, which has spread from slime green merchandise to marketing campaigns, and inspired a lifestyle trend among Millenials and Gen Z.
The high-energy dance-pop album touches on partying, Von Dutch and womanhood and has prompted TikTok dances, memes and fashion trends, and led to the new term “brat summer.”
In an Instagram post on June 8, Charli XCX described the “brat” album ethos as “me, my flaws, my f— ups, my ego all rolled into one.”
Although the term “brat” typically evokes unpleasant angst, the term in this context is about embracing one’s imperfections and accepting life’s chaotic nature.
In a TikTok video, Charlie XCX further explained, “You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like, parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.”
