Pop star Charli XCX discussed the feud between Martha Stewart and journalist Andrea Peyser during her Saturday Night Live monologue.
The 32-year-old singe used Stewart, 83, wrongly claiming Peyser was dead in her Netflix documentary, and Peyser’s subsequent “I’m alive bitch!” clapback as an example of what “brat” is.
“Honestly, it’s just like an attitude,” said Charli. “It’s a vibe. For example, in the new Martha Stewart documentary, when Martha gets mad about an old magazine article and says that she’s glad the journalist who wrote it is dead, that is a brat.”
“And then last Friday, when that exact journalist responded and said, ‘Hey, I’m alive, bitch,’ that is extremely brat,” Charli added.
The “360” singer then emphasized that “anyone can be Brat” as she was joined onstage by SNL alum Kyle Mooney.
Peyser, the journalist in question, told The Post, “Word to Mistress Martha: I’m still alive. B**ch. I’m floored to be called ‘extremely brat’ on SNL. And thrilled that Martha Stewart is merely ‘brat.’ I am, however, still a bit frightened to have lived so long, rent-free, in Martha’s head.”
In the Netflix documentary Martha, Stewart bluntly reflected on Peyser for writing “horrible” things about her during her 2004 trial for insider trading.
“But she is dead now, thank goodness,” Stewart said of Peyser, though without naming her directly. “And nobody has to put up with the crap she was writing all the time.”
Peyser, who covered Stewart’s six-week trial in Manhattan, responded defiantly in her Nov. 7 column: “I’m alive, b**ch! Even if the Domestic Dominatrix thinks she’s finished me off.”
She added, “Long after she and her insider tip-giving stockbroker Peter Bacanovic were convicted of securities fraud and other crimes, then lying about it to federal investigators, her thoughts are not with her family, her pink-slipped employees, her mini-menagerie of animals, or even her own miserable self. She’s focused her fury at me.”
Reflecting on Stewart’s behavior, Peyser wrote, “Martha’s a perfectionist so petty and abusive, she was caught on camera in the doc berating a kitchen worker for using a too-small and ‘stupid’ knife to cut an orange.”
Despite the controversy, Stewart joked about the feud while speaking at the Philadelphia Conference for Women. After reading Peyser’s headline, she remarked, “So, that will probably cause more people to watch my documentary.”
Stewart’s ex husband and his current wife, who were also mentioned in the doc, lashed out on social media, calling the media mogul “abusive.”
Stewart was convicted in March 2004 on charges of conspiracy, obstruction, and two counts of making false statements following a six-week trial.
She began her prison sentence in October 2004 and was released in March 2005, serving an additional five months under home confinement.
