Channing Tatum has taken a tough stance in his divorce battle with ex-wife Jenna Dewan and labeled her recent legal motion as a “delay tactic.”
Earlier this year, Dewan claimed she was entitled to half of the money Tatum earned from the Magic Mike movie franchise. Dewan’s lawyer previously argued the franchise was developed with “marital funds,” and Dewan filed a motion that requested Tatum’s legal team be dismissed, citing a conflict of interest.
In documents filed on August 28, Tatum argued that Dewan’s actions were an attempt to intentionally stall the case and deprive her of a fair division of their shared assets. Tatum’s filing asserts that he is being subjected to various tactics to prolong the trial, which is scheduled to take place in three months. He claims that Dewan’s attempt to disqualify his legal team is a “transparent effort” to divert attention and further delay the proceedings.
The actor, who shares an 11-year-old daughter, Everly, with Dewan, contended that her motion lacks any legal or factual basis and emphasized that Dewan has never been a client of his attorneys. They do not possess confidential information that could give them an unfair advantage.
Additionally, Tatum requested that Dewan reimburse him $20,000 for legal expenses incurred due to her alleged attempts to stall the case. He expressed hope that this financial penalty would discourage similar behavior.
This isn’t the first time Tatum accused Dewan of slowing the legal process. In May, he claimed that her allegations about his financial dealings related to the Magic Mike franchise were intended to complicate the case and increase litigation costs.
Tatum‘s response to Dewan’s claims included a request for sanctions, as he argued that her actions were designed to distract from her violations of court-ordered deadlines.
The couple, who married in July 2009 after they met on the set of Step Up, has been in a protracted legal battle since Dewan filed for divorce in 2018.
Tatum is now engaged to Zoe Kravitz, the daughter of rock icon Lenny Kravitz.
