Six months after his tragic passing, Chadwick Boseman won his first Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
His wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award via Zoom on his behalf. She listed the people she thought Boseman would have liked to thank, director George C. Wolfe, producer Denzel Washington and co-star Viola Davis. “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you you can, that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history,” Ledward said.
“I don’t have his words but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love, so thank you HFPA for this opportunity to do exactly that and hun, you keep ’em coming,” she added.
Boseman died of colon cancer at the age of 43 in August. The Black Panther star kept his years-long sickness private as he continued to work. His death sent shockwaves throughout all of Hollywood.
