Chad Johnson, the former NFL player known better known as "Ochocinco," was sentenced to 30 days in jail on probation violation charges stemming from a domestic violence case after playfully slapping his lawyer on the butt, reported the Sun-Sentinel.
Johnson and his lawyer Adam Swickler were in court to propose a no-jail plea deal before the Broward Country Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh. There was a warrant put out for Johnson’s arrest in May, leading the former NFL player to turn himself into authorities. The original domestic violence case, for which he had originally been under probation, involved Johnson head-butting his then-wife Evelyn Lozado.

Judge McHugh began complimenting the work of Swickler, Johnson’s lawyer, and proceeded to ask Johnson what he thought of him. Johnson then turned to Swickler and said “Good job” under his breath while slapping his butt – much the way he likely did on the football field after a big play. Although Johnson didn’t betray so much as a smirk, the courtroom burst into chuckles.
"Mr. Johnson, I don't know that you're taking this whole thing seriously," McHugh said. "I'm not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn't a joke."
Although Johnson told McHugh that he hadn’t been joking and that he wasn’t trying to be funny, the judge was unconvinced. When Swickler echoed Johnson, saying, "I don't think it was done as any disrespect to the court. I don't think he meant to get a reaction from the court room, judge,” McHugh stuck to her guns.
Not only did McHugh not accept the no-jail plea deal and sentence Johnson to 30 days behind bars, she also added three months onto his one-year probation.
