Chad Johnson‘s Reality Show Cancelled By VH-1 After Arrest
Wide receiver Chad Johnson, the six-time Pro Bowler once known as Chad Ochocinco, who appeared on season ten of Dancing With The Stars, will not be featured in his own reality series. VH1 cancelled Ev and Ocho Monday on the heels of Johnson’s arrest for domestic battery. Johnson, 34, was arrested by police on Saturday in Davie, Florida after his wife of six weeks, Evelyn Lozada, claimed that Johnson had head-butted her during an altercation over a receipt she found that showed the purchase of a box of condoms. Johnson was released Sunday on $2,500 bond.
In a statement to the New York Daily News, the network explained its decision to drop the show. “Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it.”
The announcement comes one day after Johnson was also cut by his NFL team, the Miami Dolphins. Johnson was signed by Miami in the offseason to a one-year contract and was expected to compete for a starting job. Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said on Monday that Johnson’s release was about what was best for the team. “It's more about the fit; in my gut I didn't think the fit was going to be beneficial to either party moving forward, whether in the short-term or the long-term,” he told ESPN. “That's really what it was all about. It wasn't about one specific thing; it just wasn't going to work.”
While it remains to be seen if any team will look to Johnson to fill their receiver needs, Johnson does have other entertainment options on the table. The online adult entertainment site Pornhub.com has offered Johnson and Lozada $100,000 for a “make-up” sex tape. There has been no word yet on whether they will accept. —CHRIS CAMACHO
