Cesar Millan, known as the Dog Whisperer, was the latest victim of a death hoax after a report surfaced that he died of a heart attack Wednesday morning.
The report, originally published by the website Unam Noticias, claimed Millan had died at the age of 45 and attributed a quote to his wife, Jahira Dar, confirming the famous dog trainer’s death.
“I hope you can understand my loss, and I would appreciate if you can give us our space for our mourning,” Dar supposedly said at a press conference.
A fake obituary for Millan also began circulating, describing supposed cause of death. “Millan was hospitalized yesterday afternoon, the medical reports indicate that he suffered a fulminate heart attack, which paralyze his heart unavailable for the blood to reach his brain, and other vital organs, situation which cause the death of this humanitarian man,” read the obituary.
Fans of Millan from his hit reality series, Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan (2004-2013), immediately began flooding Millan’s social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter with concerned messages. Millan responded swiftly, debunking the hoax Wednesday afternoon.
On his official Facebook page, Millan assured fans of his well being with a short statement, writing in the voice of his dog Junior: “Reports of my Pack Leader’s untimely demise are greatly exaggerated. I can happily report he is safe, happy and healthy. I can also tell you he kept me up all night snoring, my breakfast was a little late but I did get a great morning walk.”
Millan also took some time to answer concerned Tweets from fans, assuring them that he is “alive, calm and well.”
