Céline Dion is steadily returning to the stage after her two-year break from the public eye.
In a sparkling pink cape and dress, Dion performed her famous hits, “The Power of Love” and “I’m Alive” at the 1001 Seasons of Elie Saab fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The show marked the 45th anniversary of the Lebanese designer’s fashion career. The 1001 Seasons of Elie Laub show also saw performances from Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Nancy Arjam and Amr Diab.
Dion’s first performance since her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022 saw her sing at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony in July. There was much speculation about Dion’s involvement in the ceremony leading up to the event, and her appearance was not confirmed before the show. Dion was reportedly paid $2 million for her song at the Olympics.
Her comeback performance at the Olympics opening ceremony was followed by a surprise appearance in October at the Los Angeles 2024 Spirit of Life Gala.
Dion, 56, announced her diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome in December 2022. The rare neurological disorder causes uncontrollable muscle spasms that limit movement. Dion detailed her experience with the rare disorder in the documentary I Am: Céline Dion, in which she told reporters that resuming performances involved rigorous physical, mental, emotional and vocal therapy. “So that’s why it takes a while. But absolutely why we’re doing this because I’m already a little bit back,” Dion shared. The documentary was released earlier this year on Prime Video.
Despite the physical pain, Dion insisted she will not give up her musical career anytime soon.
“All I know is singing,” she said. “It’s what I’ve done all my life. And it’s what I love to do the most.”
