On Saturday, Celine Dion paid tribute to her late husband Rene Angelil with a beautiful yet heart-wrenching video montage, which she posted on her Facebook page.
Angelil, a former singer who was also Dion’s music manager, passed away at the age of 73 on January 14th, 2016, after battling throat cancer for eighteen years.
The video montage displayed images from Angelil’s childhood, as well as the couple’s happiest moments together. It also included footage of him with their children. The pair had three children together: René-Charles, who is now 15, and twins Eddie and Nelson, who are now 6. The video showed Angelil holding their then-newborn René-Charles, and embracing Dion’s baby bump when she was pregnant with the twins.
Later that Saturday, Dion also shared a new acapella song she dedicated to Angelil.
The two had been married for 21 years, though Dion had met Angelil when she was just 12 years old. Angelil was 38 at the time, and, after having heard one of Dion’s music recording tapes, saw a star in the young girl, and became her music manager. Their professional relationship took a romantic turn when Dion turned 19, and they began a personal relationship.
The pair married in 1994, when Dion was 26, and Angelil was 52. Despite their age difference and unlikely beginnings, the two seemed very much in love. Producer David Foster proclaimed, “They were one of the greatest love stories ever, and I mean ever.”
