Céline Dion Cancels World Tour Following ‘Human Statue’ Syndrome Diagnosis

Céline Dion, 55, has canceled all the tour dates of her Courage World Tour through April 2024. The singer announced the news on Twitter on Friday, saying that she “is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour” after her diagnosis with stiff person syndrome.

The written statement said, “As the world has emerged from the pandemic, Celine has continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery.”

In continued, saying that all tickets would be refunded.

In addition to sharing the statement, Dion wrote that she is disappointed to be canceling the 42 dates on her tour, but she’s “not giving up.”

Dion revealed in December that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disease that can cause stiff muscles in the torso, arms and legs as well as debilitating muscle spasms. At the time, she shared on Instagram that her condition would force her to cancel a sizeable number of her upcoming tour dates. She said, “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

The disease is sometimes referred to as ‘human statue’ syndrome due to its severe effects.

Dion was scheduled to perform on the European leg of her tour starting in August before finishing in April 2024. She had previously performed 52 shows in North America for the same tour, which was then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
