Barack and Michelle Obama really know how to throw a party. Some of the top names in Hollywood were guests at the White House state dinner on Wednesday, held on the South Lawn.
Stars George Clooney, Carey Mulligan, Elizabeth McGovern, and Richard Branson joined the Obama family and British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha, the guests of honor, reports BBC News. Approximately 360 guests were in attendance as Cameron and Obama reaffirmed the "special relationship" between their countries.
Obama quoted Winston Churchill as he toasted the Prime Minister and the UK. "To her Majesty the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee. To our dear friends David and Samantha and to the great purpose and design of our alliance. May we remain now and always as faithful servants."
Grammy winner John Legend and English folk band Mumford & Sons performed at the star-studded event, which also included billionaire Warren Buffet, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Irish golfer Rory McIlroy, and Homeland star Damian Lewis. But what was on the menu?
The first course consisted of a crisped halibut with potato crust with kale from the White House garden, followed by a spring salad with shaved radish, avocados, cucumbers, and shallot dressing. The main course was Bison Wellington in a red wine reduction — a marriage of American and British themes.
