Celebrity Chef Michael Chiarello Dies At 61 After Allergic Food Reaction

Celebrity chef and restaurateur Michael Chiarello has died at age 61

He died at the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California, after being treated for an acute allergic reaction that led to an anaphylactic shock. He reportedly spent his final moments surrounded by his family and friends.

“We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being. He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table,” a statement made by the Chiarello family said. “As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him, both in his kitchens and in our hearts. His legacy will forever live on in the love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life’s flavors.”

Chiarello hosted shows on PBS, Food Network, Fine Living and The Cooking Channel.

He had his own show, Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, which ran for seven years from 2003 to 2010. He also served as a judge in Bravo’s Top Chef franchise. In addition to his television career, Chiarello wrote several cookbooks and has been praised for his culinary philosophy that centered on sustainability and shared meals.

It has yet to be determined what caused the initial allergic reaction to Chiarello. His family has requested donations go to Meals on Wheels in lieu of flowers.
